Director's Message

Dr. Spencer

Welcome to the University of Kansas Bioengineering Research Center (KU-BERC).  The overall mission of the University of Kansas Bioengineering Research Center is to provide a research and teaching environment that nurtures creativity while catalyzing the collaborations that will lead to solutions to seemingly intractable problems impacting the health and well-being of our society.  The KU-BERC represents a partnership between education, industry and the community. This Center will provide the mechanisms to facilitate and promote the introduction of new technologies into patient care and well-being.  It will open the door to the fastest growing field in engineering and to the discipline that is attracting the best and brightest young engineers.

The mission of the KU-BERC may be summarized as follows:

  • promote discovery and advances which impact future directions in bioengineering.
  • promote interactions with industrial partners and international collaborators to bring our faculty and students’ expertise to bear on the development of materials, devices and sensors for the biomedical industry.
  • develop programs that will prepare our students to lead in an increasingly diverse world.
  • contribute to the economic development of the region by promoting technology transfer and entrepreneurship
